The Bialetti Moka Express has been part of Italian kitchens since 1933, and its octagonal aluminium silhouette is still instantly recognisable. It makes coffee without capsules, filters or electricity, using only water, ground coffee and the heat of your hob. Steam pressure pushes the water up through the coffee, and a few minutes later the familiar gurgle tells you it’s ready. The Moka Express 4 brews 185 ml, or about four espresso-sized cups, which is enough for a slow breakfast for two or one generous mug just for you. It’s light, compact and easy to look after: rinse it with warm water, let it dry, and it’s ready for tomorrow. Grind your coffee slightly coarser than for espresso, or choose one of our recommended coffees such as Cascaritas Classic, La Colmena or Angostura Espresso, and enjoy a bold, aromatic cup made the traditional way.
