Reyes Family
Hacienda El Rodeo — Colombia
The Reyes family’s path into coffee is quite unusual compared to many coffee farming families in Colombia. Cristian Reyes’s first professional encounter with coffee was as a barista while studying in England. When his family bought an abandoned estate in 2010, he convinced his parents to use the land for coffee cultivation. Thus, Hacienda El Rodeo was founded in 2011. Their goal: to produce specialty coffee and build a sustainable business based on direct trade.

Hacienda El Rodeo
Founded in 2011, Hacienda El Rodeo spans across 165 hectares in Curití, Santander in north-central Colombia and is located at an elevation of 1,900 to 2,200 meters above mean sea level (m.a.s.l.). Around 25 hectares are reserved for nature and wildlife conservation. Native trees from the region and plantain provide shade for the coffee plants. Processing, drying, and storage facilities are located on the farm to ensure grade, hygiene, and traceability. The Reyes Family has achieved some notable prizes, including first place in the 2023 and 2025 national coffee competition, “Colombia: Land of Diversity,” organized by the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation (FNC).

Since its founding, the coffee farm has been a true family project. Alfonso Reyes and Martha Camacho bring decades of experience in agronomy. They are responsible for cultivation and production on the farm.
Their son, Cristian Reyes, is on the finca during harvest season. There, he leads processing and oversees quality control. For the rest of the year, he lives in Berlin and manages the sales of green coffee from Hacienda El Rodeo.
Cristian’s siblings are also part of the project: Carolina is in charge of accounting and media, while Manuel handles design.
Hacienda Cafetera El Rodeo is one of the few coffee farms that controls the entire supply chain, from cultivation to direct trade.
In 2018, Cristian and Carolina also founded their own roasting brand, Ruralia. They aim to reach coffee drinkers in Colombia directly and make high-quality coffee locally accessible.
