    Reyes Family

The Reyes family’s path into coffee is quite unusual compared to many coffee farming families in Colombia. Cristian Reyes’s first professional encounter with coffee was as a barista while studying in England. When his family bought an abandoned estate in 2010, he convinced his parents to use the land for coffee cultivation. Thus, Hacienda El Rodeo was founded in 2011 – with the goal of producing specialty coffee and building a business based on direct trade.

    About
    Hacienda El Rodeo

Founded in 2011, Hacienda El Rodeo spans across 165 hectares in Curití, Santander in north-central Colombia and is located at an elevation of 1,900 to 2,200 meters above mean sea level (m.a.s.l.). Around 25 hectares are reserved for nature and wildlife conservation. Native trees from the region and plantain provide shade for the coffee plants. Processing, drying, and storage facilities are located on the farm to ensure grade, hygiene, and traceability. The Reyes Family has achieved some notable prizes, including first place in the 2023 and 2025 national coffee competition, “Colombia: Land of Diversity,” organized by the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation (FNC).

Since its founding, the coffee farm has become a project that involves the whole family. Alfonso Reyes and Martha Camacho, who have decades of experience in agronomy, take charge of cultivation and production. Their son Cristian Reyes is at the finca during the harvest season and directs coffee processing and quality control. For the remainder of the year he is based in Berlin, where he focuses on sales of green coffee from Hacienda El Rodeo. Cristian’s siblings also play a part: Carolina is in charge of accounting and media and Manuel takes care of design.

Hacienda Cafetera El Rodeo is one of the rare coffee farms with complete oversight over their entire supply chain – from production to direct sales. In 2018, Cristian and Carolina founded their own domestic roasted coffee brand, Ruralia, which allows them to reach the local market of coffee consumers in Colombia.
