Seasonal changes: New coffee from Equipo monKaaba and the last of Gitesi Coffee
Coffee is a seasonal product that is harvested once a year. Warawul buys most of its coffee directly from producers, ensuring planning security and fair prices. Currently, the popular coffees from Gitesi Coffee are running out. However, we are very pleased to announce new exciting coffees from Colombia by the Equipo monKaaba

Like all fruits, coffee is a seasonal product. In most growing regions, the harvest takes place only once a year, over several weeks. After harvesting, the coffee is processed, dried, and prepared for export. It can then take several months before it reaches ports in Europe like Hamburg, Bremen, or Rotterdam.
Direct Trade and Seasonal Availability We buy most of our coffee through direct contracts with producers, ensuring planning security for them. Producers set their own prices, and we can be sure that what we pay reaches them. This is a win-win for both the producers and us. However, it also means that we purchase coffee before or during the harvest. The coffee then arrives months later.
Thus, coffee from a specific region is only available as long as we have stock, with new supplies arriving once the next harvest reaches us. Special microlots are always available in limited quantities.

The Final Roasts of Gitesi Coffee and Cascaritas Natural
Currently, this particularly applies to the coffees from Gitesi Coffee. Gitesi Washed is no longer available. We expect to roast the last batch of Gitesi Espresso by the end of September, and our beloved Gitesi Peaberry will likely be roasted for the final time in October.
The coffees from Aimé Gahizi were the coffees Warawul launched with. For this reason alone, and because they have gained many fans amongst you, we will miss our Gitesi Espresso, Washed, and Peaberry dearly.
The good news is that we already purchased coffee from Aimé from the new Gitesi harvest in May. It is currently being prepared for export and will be shipped to us via Mombasa. We expect the new Gitesi coffees to be available again in February next year.
Our microlot Cascaritas Natural will also likely be roasted for the last time in October, and we will miss this coffee as well.
New Coffees from Equipo monKaaba in Colombia
At the same time, we are excited to introduce two new coffees from Colombia: La Colmena and Las Juntas. Both come from Equipo monKaaba, a producer initiative in San Agustín, Huila. The initiative was founded by smallholder coffee farmers to market their coffee together and gain access to the specialty coffee market, allowing them to earn significantly higher prices.
The six families who started monKaaba have invested considerable time and energy into quality improvements, as well as sustainable farming and processing methods. Today, 60 families are involved in the project, all united by the goal of producing top-quality coffee to bring prosperity to the once remote and conflict-ridden San Agustín valley.

Our co-founder Anabel visited the producers of Equipo monKaaba in July and was deeply impressed by what they have achieved despite challenging conditions. The project is an impressive example of how producers with little land and capital can bring about significant change for themselves and their communities through initiative, hard work, and a commitment to the highest quality.
La Colmena is a field blend from several monKaaba producers. It allows new specialty coffee producers to participate in the market by contributing their coffee to the blend, which is fully traceable regarding producers and varieties. The result is a delicious coffee with a classic profile—mild sweetness, a round body, and notes of cocoa, cane sugar, and apple.
Las Juntas is a washed Pink Bourbon coffee from Diever Galindez and his wife Estela Guzman. The coffee has an exceptional profile, with fruity sweetness reminiscent of blueberry, ripe oranges, and grapes.
Try these coffees—we look forward to your feedback!
