A Classic Colombian Coffee: El Rodeo Classic from the Reyes Family

We’re introducing El Rodeo Classic, a washed Arabica Castillo from the Reyes Family at Hacienda El Rodeo in Curití, Santander, Colombia. This is a clean, versatile coffee with tasting notes of milk chocolate, plum, and pomelo—a classic Colombian profile that works well across brew methods.

Hacienda El Rodeo is a specialty coffee farm in Santander, Colombia, founded in 2011 by the Reyes family. The project began when Cristian Reyes, then a barista studying in England, convinced his parents to turn an abandoned estate into a coffee farm.

The farm was empty, previously used as a cattle ranch (hence the name El Rodeo). So the family started planting coffee bit by bit. The goal was to sustainably grow high quality coffees.

Environment-friendly cultivation under shade and in forest systems

The coffee is grown under shade trees in native forests and, where no forest coverage existed previously, under banana trees. This is done as a transitional shade, while the family plants more native trees to grow the forest system.

50 percent of coffee in El Rodeo is grown in native forest and the rest under banana trees while the family plants more trees

The processing of the coffee happens entirely on the farm for full quality control and traceability. Cristian, who works as the processing manager of the farm experimented with the Castillo coffee to create a profile that results in a very well-rounded and balanced, clean cup with chocolate and plum notes - ideal for an easy drinking coffee for every day.

    Direct relationship coffee

The Reyes Family places great emphasis on direct relationships with coffee roasters. In 2025, they took the big step to organise the import and the marketing of their coffee in Europe themselves. This helps them maintain quality control over the supply chain.
