José del Mar Ordoñez runs Finca Bella Vista in Huila, Colombia. He joined the monKaaba producer group in 2024 and achieved the first international sale of coffee under his own name in 2025 through Semilla Coffee. We are proud to have José del Mar’s first lot at Warawul, a honey-processed Pink Bourbon that represents years of learning, effort, and perseverance.

    About Bella Vista Espresso

    [object Object]

Among producers in San Agustín, Huila, José del Mar Ordoñez is well-known for the quality of his traditional washed Pink Bourbon lots. But it was this lot of Honey-processed Pink Bourbon that caught the attention of the monKaaba group, a smallholder producer initiative that we’ve been engaged with since early 2024.

Honey processing is intensive and requires time and attention to achieve good results. For this honey lot, the coffee cherries were harvested every 3 weeks. After pulping, they are fermented in a tank for 3 days. After fermentation, the husk was removed and the coffee was dried with its pectin layer. Fermentation during drying gives coffee a very round sweetness. However, the process is difficult to control, especially at the altitude of José del Mar's finca, which is almost 2,000 meters above sea level.

    HuilaColombia 1960 m a.s.l. Altitude

José del Mar Ordoñez’s Finca Bella Vista is located in La Esperanza, San Agustín, Huila, Colombia. Located between 1,940 and 1,960 masl, it is the last coffee farm in this area before the altitude climbs above 2,000 and farms give way to high mountains. Three out of the farm’s total 4.2 hectares are planted with coffee trees, including 3,000 Caturra plants, 2,500 each of Catimor and Pink Bourbon, and 500 Bourbon Ají.
